From the High Andes, Lundin Mining adds Aisoncore in Caserones

At more than 4,000 meters above sea level, where decisions weigh as much as trucks, and the margin for error shrinks along with oxygen, Caserones has decided to bet on the future. Lundin Mining has made official the launching of Aisoncore at its acquired site in 2023. The platform, which has been operating successfully at Candelaria for almost two years, thus makes a leap in scale, complexity and confidence.

But this story does not start on the mountain. It starts with a relationship built by hand, repair after repair.

From Candelaria to Caserones: when data earns confidence

What started as a pilot in 2022 ended up becoming a strategic alliance: more than 2,000 repairs completed, a reduction of up to 40% in downtime, and an unprecedented collaboration with local workshops. This was Candelaria's experience.

"The need to have traceability of the repaired components, when they were out of work, that is, during the process of diagnosis, repair and transportation, led us to look for external solutions for our ERP (SAP). This led us to look for external solutions to our ERP (SAP). Candelaria's experience with Aisoncore allowed us to make a detailed follow-up of all the stages of the repair process, as well as to reduce the operational and administrative process times. From this experience, the implementation in Caserones was a decision in line with the strategy that the regional management of Lundin Mining is developing: to add value through the identification of synergies between companies, hand in hand with the standardization of processes".

Patricio Valencia, Assistant Manager, Materials Engineering and Purchasing, Lundin Mining South America

That story convinced Lundin to replicate the model in an environment where everything is more extreme: Caserones, in the middle of the Andean mountain range.

Climbing to understand: the journey to the work site

When we arrived at Caserones, we knew immediately that the focus had to change. Because there is no room for generic solutions here.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted in a large room by all the key players in the repair process: Warehouse, Logistics, Purchasing and Maintenance. All at the same table, with a common and clear objective: to improve the management of repairables. It was powerful to see how each area contributed its vision, leaving aside the silos to build something bigger, as a single team.

The meeting was amazing. Fluid, full of ideas, with diverse but well aligned points of view. We took away tasks, yes, but also inspiration.

We visited the Truck Shop, thecellars. We went up, we went down, we watched. And above all, we listened.

"In processes where multiple areas are involved, collaboration becomes essential to ensure an efficient and uninterrupted operational flow. The absence of this coordination can generate significant operational losses, directly affecting business results. Lundin has established as part of its organizational purpose the constant pursuit of operational excellence, in which innovation and technological adoption play a key role. The company has actively promoted the implementation of digital tools that support and optimize our processes, such as Aisoncore, which not only digitizes the tracking of repairables, but also drives a collaborative culture based on reliable and accessible data."

Franco Ganora, Regional Purchasing Manager, Lundin Mining

The most powerful thing was to see the entire Caserones team - from Logistics to Maintenance - working in coordination. Here, the repair process is experienced as a chain, and everyone understands that if one link fails, the whole system suffers.

A platform that unites worlds

Aisoncore comes to Caserones to connect dots that today work, but don't always talk to each other. Approved orders, workshop diagnostics, supplier changes, technical documents, downtime... everything starts to be in one place.

Expanded Ecosystem: Zepol, Gomez Radiators and Weir - Vulco

The trip did not end at the site. We went down to Copiapó, where we visited three key players:

  • Zepol, specialists in hydraulic components.
  • Gómez Radiators, with decades of experience in cooling.
  • Weir Minerals, a key partner in pump and cyclone overhaul.

In each workshop we hear something in common: with Aisoncore, the conversation stops being corrective and becomes collaborative.

"Collaboration between mining companies and suppliers is key for an optimized development of the industry. For our part, we are always in the field to facilitate the work of our mining client. The use of technology helps us all to organize our work and be more productive. We have to take advantage of the copper price and continue to develop solutions that drive us to continue processing more. It is not only a benefit for the industry, but also for the country,

reflected Mauricio Valenzuela of Weir-Vulco during our visit to his workshop in Copiapó.

What's next?

This is not just a new customer for Aisoncore. It is a complex, strategic and symbolic operation, where every improvement counts.

And it's not just a new contract for Lundin either. It's a bid to transform the entire repair ecosystem, from job yards to workshops in the city.

Traceability is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. And Caserones has decided to face it as real challenges are faced: with equipment, with data, with conviction and leadership.
