The role of technology in the evolution of the mining repair process

By Bastian Andres Varas Michea

The adoption of technologies in the mining sector has evolved and taken on different perspectives in recent years. Today, it is a topic that aims not only to improve operational efficiency but also to address environmental and social concerns, making mining more responsible and sustainable.

In this article, we'll discuss how technology can play a crucial role in adapting and improving the repair process in the mining sector, covering its various aspects and implementing it.

How to integrate technology into the mining remediation process.

In our experience implementing Aisoncore hand in hand with our clients, we have detected different ways to successfully integrate technology into the repairables process. It is important to consider that the first step in this integration is not simply adopting a technology platform, but involves a deep understanding of the process and also how this can impact the results.

At the level of the repair process, there are three main focuses within which we detect that the maximum value of the Aisoncore implementation is deployed:

  • Process automation: Combines automation with artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize processes and procedures in the mine or plant. This can improve team coordination, time utilization and supply chain management, with guided steps from each point of interaction. The result is better management of data or requests and facilitating informed and adaptive decision making.
  • Sustainability: Technology can help reduce the carbon footprint of mining operations. According to one of our studies, based on Cost Avoidance, our customers repair more components, which results in significant resource savings, less soil contamination, energy consumption, raw materials, greenhouse effect. When we choose repair over purchase, we reduce our CO2 footprint by up to 56%.
  • Data Integration: Data integration in mining is a crucial process that allows consolidating information from various sources to optimize decision making and improve operational efficiency. The collection and analysis of data points to the reliability of the repairs generated by each supplier. Thanks to the fact that all evaluations and post-repairs are stored in our system as a backup. Some areas that allows and favors the integration of data:
  1. Unifies diverse data sources
  2. Real-time analysis
  3. Failure prevention
  4. Consolidated data visualization

Data integration is critical to transforming mining into a more efficient and competitive industry. By effectively leveraging information, companies can not only improve their operations, but also move towards a more sustainable and responsible model.

How we apply this adaptation: our experience with customers.

On the other hand, the adaptation of the mining personnel or profile to the technology is not an easy issue. This is mainly due to the challenge of generating synergy between the different teams and achieving a deep understanding of the value that technological optimizations provide in the short and medium term in the remediation process...

Another important challenge arises in the process of adopting new technologies. The first phases of these adoption processes often involve manual entry of historical data, tasks that will be duplicated at the beginning, training, etc. It is important at this point to have a record of progress based on data.

Based on our experience, there are certain key pieces that we consider within the implementation and adoption process:

Deliver visibility of components as soon as they are shipped by your customer: This way we incentivize the first step in adoption by having the platform as the primary source of information.

Online documentation (Failure Reports, Quotations, Purchase Orders, Photographs, etc.): Centralized information generates greater use and facilitates technological adoption by standardizing daily tasks on a consolidated platform.

Intuitive design: At this point the user experience design is a key part in faster technological adoptions, as it generates less frustration in the user and therefore faster learning speed.

Report generator with orders in process: Having visibility of all orders pending approval helps to speed up the repairables process, this is where direct collaboration between buyers and suppliers can be evidenced through the software.

Dedicated support by a Customer Success: Having an expert support during the implementation process is the basis for generating security when using the platform and concrete progress based on objectives.

Fast and timely responses: The quick response when users generate queries or tickets makes them feel part of the process.

At Aisoncore we constantly talk about "becoming part of the customer's pain", this means that we deeply understand the challenges of the component repair process and also, the implications of starting to operate through technology.

The implementation of technology in mining processes such as repairable management has significantly transformed the industry, improving efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Today Aisoncore is one of the pioneers in component traceability and a key tool to improve transparency and accountability in supply chains, promoting a more sustainable and ethical approach in various industries. Under this scope is that our experience has led us to understand that implementing technology in the mining process goes far beyond just implementing a platform, but rather is to respond to the demands of mining today and into the future.
